Hey guys! Today i’ve got something special for you guys! As you know we’ve interviewed Dem Slackers & F2U DJ’s and it’s time for a third. This time we spoke to my all time favorite duo Beau & Kalok, better known as Prowley Burglars!
As you guys and gals know, these are my favorite and I always talk about them, haha! They’ve made a mixtape and because of that, I was keen to ask them a few questions! Luckily they had time to answer them and I hope you guys enjoy it!
P.S. CHECK THE POST UNDER THIS ONE TOO! NEW POST JUST UNDER THIS ONE!
HTB: So Kalok and Beau, you guys ready to start this interview! Can’t wait to get it started haha!
Kalok: Haha bring it on!
HTB: Well, let me start with my first question and I think everybody would like to know this one! How did you guys meet and start with producing & DJing together?
Kalok: It was kinda funny actually, we met on Hyves (kinda lame!), it’s the same as myspace, the only difference is that’s from The Netherlands. We started talking about producing music and stuff, everything just ‘clicked’ and… Prowley Burglars was born!
HTB: How did you guys find the name “Prowley Burglars”? Any history behind that name? It’s a good one, don’t get me wrong, haha!
Kalok: We seriously thought about it for like 3 months untill we came up with “Prowley Burglars”. I ended up on wikipedia while searching for a name and came across the name prowley, it ment stealthy, don’t really know if that’s true or just a false thingy…
And Burglars, well… that’s speaks for itself! WORD!
HTB: What’s the history behind you both? As in how did Beau/Kalok get started producing etc etc?
Kalok: I started producing when i was like 17(?), a friend of mine gave me copy of this producing software which i’ve became addicted to and I still am!
Beau: There was a time that I listen to all kind of music. Seriously all kind of music! Rock, Funk, Jazz, Dance and other basic music. Why? It inspired me, all those weird melodies, the crazy drums, the powerful guitar and that lovely voice. Music was really another world for me. Especially when I saw the video clips. But a while ago when I was about 11/12 years old, I was listening to the radio, I heard a track; You Don’t Know Me by Armand van Helden. And Damnnn.. I was sold!
HTB: You guys have and are producing some remixes and original work with some big artists. How’s the feedback from these artists?
Kalok: We get great feedback from other artist, they like our evil-ish kinda style
HTB: You guys have done remixes to original work, so which one is your personal favorite? And which original/remix work gives you the biggest reaction in your sets?!
Kalok: Our remix for Tom Piper is deff our jewel! We were really struggling with this remix and eventually we came up with this ravy remix, which also turned to be a great ice breaker during our set @ boomingbeatz!
HTB: Like Booming Beatz, there we’re some major artists at that party. Which one is your favorite artists at the moment and whom would you like to work with the most? Also, which is your favorite artists you’ve worked or done a gig with?
Kalok: Our favorite artist at the moment is Shinichi Osawa, he’s a fucking genius! He has that melodic guitar sound that we like!
We’d like to work with Sawgood in the future! Let’s see what kind off evil baby is coming out of that collab!
HTB: What do you guys think of the fidget/electro/dubstep/drum n bass scene at this very moment?
Kalok: Fidget is dying in our opinion, therefore electro is taking it’s place in the music scene, also jackin/tech house is very hot at the moment!
Dubstep is timeless and will be there till the end, and drum n bass is sick. We will most likely make some dubstep tunes in the future…
HTB: Any heads up you would like to give us on your very own EP or some remixes your doing for some artists?
Kalok: There’s going to be an EP inspired by japanese music… the rest is confidentional. Sorry bro!
HTB: Can we expect Prowley Burglars to grown in 2010 and see you guys at a major gig anytime soon like 5 Days Off? In my eyes i’d give you the chance!
Kalok: We don’t know what the future might bring us but we will continue pursuing our dreams and archievements. Which hopefully lead us to ‘big’ gigs! (we hope? haha!)
HTB: Who’s the better mixer and who’s the better producer? Haha, i know it’s an evil question and hopefully it won’t end up in a break up, but i’m qurious, haha!
Kalok: We’re divorcing right now! no just kidding haha! but beau has the ‘wheels of steel’ gen in his body and i have the ‘producer’ gen in mine.
HTB: Any tips for future producers?
Kalok: Keep producing, never give up on your dreams and stay true to your music!
HTB: Anything you’d like to say to finish this interview?
Kalok: Check out our new mixtape!!!
Well there you go! Our third interview with the Prowley Burglars! Now as Kalok said, time to check out their mixtape! Enjoy!
